GAA Coach and Player Development Summer Webinar Series 2026.

This webinar "Grouping players by ability - streaming in Gaelic Games" is delivered by David Moran.

David is a coach, coach developer and postdoctoral researcher in the CoEx|Lab in DCU, whose research focuses primarily on coaching pedagogy and player experience in team sport. He has presented his work at a number of national and international conferences, and he is a regular contributor to national and international coaching conversations through blogs, radio and podcasts.

Alongside his research, he has a wealth of experience coaching and coach development in Gaelic games. As a Games promotion officer in Dublin for 8 years, David supported coaches in clubs through coach education workshops and on-field coaching support. In addition to a number of senior club teams, he has also coached Dublin development squads and minor football panels, while also operating as a parent-coach with his own children’s team’s.

This webinar will explore streaming, a method of grouping players by ability, in Gaelic games. In clubs where sufficient number allow for multiple teams per age grade, coaches face challenges in regards to grouping strategies both in competition and in training. This webinar will focus on recently published research with players, parents and coaches on their experiences of streaming, and ongoing research with coaches on their implementation of streaming, to provide guidance for coaches who are navigating this complexity.
