Objectives:

OBJECTIVES Develop Coaching Competencies: Enable participants to demonstrate "How to Coach" skills, including building rapport, observing, analyzing, explaining, demonstrating, and providing positive feedback. Skill and Movement Development: Equip coaches to identify and teach the core skills of Hurling, Camogie, Football, and Ladies Football, as well as fundamental movement skills appropriate to Gaelic games. Session Planning and Organization: Train coaches to plan, organize, and deliver safe, high-quality, and progressive coaching sessions and games, regardless of age or ability level. Understanding the Player: Help coaches understand who they are coaching (child, youth, or adult) and ensure training is inclusive and developmentally appropriate. Promote Safety and Well-being: Ensure a safe environment is created, with a strong focus on child safeguarding and promoting the physical and mental well-being of players. Reflective Practice: Encourage coaches to reflect on their own practice to improve their coaching and the overall experience of the players.

The Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games (ICGG) Award is the mandatory entry-level course for new coaches across GAA, LGFA, and Camogie, replacing the previous Foundation Award. It provides a 9-hour foundation in coaching, covering child/youth/adult development, fundamental movements, and skill-specific activities. The ICGG is the first step on the GAA Coach Education Pathway, often delivered in two sessions, and is necessary for anyone starting their coaching journey. Course Specifics: Requirement: It is the initial step on the GAA coach education pathway and does not require prior experience. Requirement for Coaches: It is MANDATORY for new coaches to have completed this, along with Garda vetting and a Safeguarding 1 workshop.
