Objectives:

The introduction to coaching gaelic games (ICGG) course represents the initial stage of the GAA coaching pathway and is suited to individuals beginning their coaching journey in Gaelic football (GAA & LGFA). Having completed this course, participants will have developed an awareness of how to promote health and well-being of players at all ages through Gaelic Games, an understanding of the movements required to play Gaelic Games and how to design activities to develop these movements. Also, coaches will understand the importance of planning and be provided with practical preparation resources for their own sessions.

The Introduction to Gaelic Games Coaching (ICGG) Award is the introductory award for coaches of Gaelic games. This course is aimed at football coaches from the GAA and LGFA. The ICGG Award course has been designed to support new coaches develop a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, competencies, and values for coaching the child, youth or adult playing population. The Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games award is structured around three key elements: 1). The Coach: ‘Being a Coach’, ‘How to Coach’, and ‘Preparation for Planning’. 2). The Player: ‘Who are you coaching?’. 3). The Game: a focus on movement for Gaelic games, skill development and games. As part of this course, attendees will also undergo a Child safeguarding workshop which is an integral component of this course that promotes the mental and physical well-being of all playing members. The ICGG football course is 8 hours in duration, typically delivered over two, four-hour sessions and covers key modules including: • The “How to Coach Skills” resource. • Being a Coach. • Movement in Gaelic Games. • Who are you coaching? • Skill Development. • Games. • Preparation & Planning.
