Introducing Be Internet Legends

Be Internet Legends is an online safety programme created by Google, to help children be safer and more confident explorers in the digital world.

The GAA has partnered with Google, to address bullying & online safety programme, by launching Google’s Be Internet Legends programme through our Gaelic Games clubs in Ireland and Britain. Together we’ve developed activities and resources designed to be used within your club, but focusing on helping children develop these important skills and behaviours in an online context. The programme mirrors the Give Respect - Get Respect initiative which promotes respecting fellow players, coaches, referees, opponents and officials; playing fair; treating others equally; setting an example; and creating an environment where children feel confident and comfortable to talk to a coach or adult if they have a concern.

These activities can be used during training sessions or can take part at home too.

Getting Started

The following links will help you find the right information and resources.

Let Marty Morrissey guide you through these three short videos which will introduce you to the Be Internet Legends programme with ideas throughout as to how you can use them in your club.

Download the Be Internet Legends Guide to learn about the programme’s core pillars – to be Sharp, Alert, Secure, Kind and Brave. It will also give you ideas about embedding the programme in your club and community, including information to share with parents.

Click, read and share the Legendary Team Pledge with your team. It’s a great way for children to agree on shared values around positivity and online safety – all aligned to the Give Respect – Get Respect initiative.

Download activity packs for ideas you could build into training or team events at your club. The activities are practical and flexible, to keep children active and engaged during training sessions.

Your club, your way

The Be Internet Legends resources for GAA affiliated clubs are guidelines and ideas.

You could try more than one activity in one session or embed the ideas over a longer period of time, whatever works best for you and your club.

If you have any questions about the programme, please feel free to email [email protected] or to a GAA official at [email protected].
